Leslie RS5T Train Horn

Two views of Leslie RS5T five chime train
horn. Note in the front view that the bottom of the largest (#25) bell
is purposely slightly flat-tened out so that the horn will clear properly
on the roof of the locomotive cab. This horn has the so-called spike backs,
the small projection on the back is a hollow tuning chamber which enhances
the operation of the horns. Check these out on the sound clips, one of
a new horn on a test and the other of a horn in service.
The Doppler
pitch shift caused by the forward motion of the train accounts for the different
pitch effect of the horns in the two sound clips. Performance and power of
the Leslie horns is similar to that of the Nathan K horns.
